Best Time to Visit Campeche: Month-by-Month Weather Guide
Updated
Campeche's tropical climate means warm weather year-round, but the right month makes all the difference. Here's a practical breakdown of seasons, costs, crowds, and what to expect each month.

Campeche sits on the western edge of the Yucatán Peninsula, facing the Gulf of Mexico. The climate is tropical — hot and humid for most of the year, with a sharp divide between the dry season (roughly November through April) and the rainy season (June through October). May is the transition month, and November tapers off from the rains.
Temperatures don't swing wildly. Daytime highs range from 29°C (84°F) in January to 34°C (93°F) in May. Nighttime lows stay between 20°C and 25°C. The real variable is rainfall and humidity, which shape how comfortable you'll feel walking the walled city, exploring ruins, or sitting on the Malecón.
The Short Answer
December through February is the sweet spot: dry, warm but not oppressive, and ideal for sightseeing. January and February are the busiest (and priciest) months. If you want lower prices and don't mind heat, late November and March are solid shoulder-season alternatives.
Dry Season: November to April
This is peak tourism season in Campeche. Skies are clear, humidity drops, and rain is rare — typically 1 to 3 rainy days per month from December through March.
December and January see average highs around 29°C (84°F) and lows near 20°C (68°F). It's the most comfortable weather of the year for walking the historic centre, visiting Edzná, or spending afternoons on the Malecón. Hotel prices are at their highest, especially around Christmas and New Year. Book accommodation early if you're travelling in this window.
February brings slightly warmer days (up to 31°C / 88°F) and the added draw of Carnaval de Campeche, typically held in the days before Lent. The city fills with parades, music, and street celebrations. It's lively and family-friendly, but accommodation costs spike again. If Carnaval is on your list, this is the month — just plan ahead.
March and April heat up further. March is still dry, with highs around 32°C (90°F). By April, daytime temperatures reach 34°C (93°F) and the air starts to feel heavier. These are good months for visiting ruins like Calakmul or Edzná if you go early in the morning, but afternoons in the walled city can be draining. Crowds thin out after Easter, and prices begin to drop.

Hot Season: May
May is the hottest month. Average highs hit 34°C (93°F), and humidity starts climbing as the rainy season approaches. Rainfall increases to around 47 mm for the month, but it's still relatively dry compared to what follows.
This is low-season pricing. Hotels and tours are cheaper, and the city feels quieter. If you can handle the heat — early mornings and late evenings are tolerable — May offers good value. Just carry water, wear light clothing, and plan indoor activities (museums, restaurants) for midday.
Rainy Season: June to October
The rains arrive in earnest in June, with monthly rainfall jumping to over 200 mm. July through September are the wettest months, with 14 to 19 rainy days per month. September is typically the peak.
The rain usually comes in short, heavy afternoon downpours rather than all-day soakers. Mornings are often clear. This means you can still explore — just plan outdoor activities for the morning and keep an eye on the sky by mid-afternoon.
Hurricane season runs from June through November, with the highest risk in September and October. Campeche's Gulf coast is vulnerable, though direct hits are not common every year. If you're travelling in these months, keep an eye on forecasts and consider travel insurance. November is the tail end of the season — risk drops significantly by mid-month.
This is the cheapest time to visit. Hotel rates are at their lowest, and you'll have the bastions and museums largely to yourself. The trade-off is heat, humidity, and the occasional disrupted travel day.
Shoulder Months: The Value Picks
Late November sits at the transition. Rains taper off, temperatures are still warm (around 29°C / 84°F), and prices haven't yet climbed to peak-season levels. March offers similar value on the other side — warming up but still dry, with fewer visitors than January and February.
These shoulder windows are practical choices if you want decent weather without peak crowds or prices.

Practical Tips by Season
Dry season (Nov–Apr): Book accommodation in advance, especially for January, February, and Carnaval week. Sunscreen and a hat are essential — the Gulf sun is strong even in "cooler" months.
Rainy season (Jun–Oct): Pack a light rain jacket or umbrella. Morning starts are your friend. Check road conditions if you're driving to Calakmul or the southern ruins — heavy rain can affect unpaved sections.
Year-round: Air conditioning is common in mid-range and upscale hotels but may not be available in budget lodgings. If you're sensitive to heat, confirm A/C before booking. Drink bottled water, and carry cash for smaller towns and market stalls where cards aren't always accepted.
